The Humanitus Foundation empowers indigenous communities and individuals through appropriate education for all. This is primarily achieved by utilising locally-produced FM radio broadcasts and videos, supported by satellite technology, community seminars and workshops. Community stations broadcast locally-produced audio material which is supplemented by material from our DISH Radio studio.
We work alongside many agencies, CBOs, NGOs, government ministries, radio content providers and individuals who share our goal of empowerment through education. Our current focus is eastern and southern Africa. Humanitus is headquartered in Uganda and maintains an office in Amsterdam.

Humanitus is a registered, community-specific, not-for-profit Non-Governmental Organisation and works within communities at all levels to achieve shared goals. Using education to counter the spread of HIV/AIDS and the provision of support for people affected by HIV/AIDS are primary objectives of our DISH Radio project.
Our current projects focus on HIV/AIDS, sexual and reproductive health and related developmental issues. Our key targets are women and youth, displaced persons, youth unable to attend school for whatever reason, orphans, sex workers and their clients, farmers who want to diversify their practices and communities in general. We are working alongside the NGO Teachers Without Borders on our School of the Airwaves project.
Humanitus is a fully transparent foundation and undertakes only projects which have solid support at all levels. To achieve this, Humanitus works with governments, NGOs, local communities, individuals and other interested parties during all phases of its projects, from concept to implementation.
Our projects involve the training of members of local communities to maintain our projects on a self-funded basis. Humanitus works alongside CBOs and NGOs which continue work on specific projects. Other partners are NGOs, institutions and bodies which work alongside Humanitus on individual projects. Only by doing so can Humanitus achieve its goal of appropriate education for all.

"Let us all move beyond infighting. Instead, why not lean towards consultative decision-making and joint action towards common goals? We have achieved so much that many thought impossible. We have to learn from one another and rise above our differences. If we fail to do that, history will judge us - and judge us poorly" - Trent Okeefe. Humanitus Executive Director.
